Polished concrete floors are considered a good sustainable floor design because they make use of the materials that are already on the job. Concrete polished floors should be considered when building towards a more green solution because the floors are low-maintenance and easy to maintain. Polished concrete floors are durable surfaces that withstand chipping and denting. These types of floors have a very long life expectancy compared to other floors like tile and timber that usually need to be replaced about every 20 years. If maintained correctly a polished floor can have a life span of up to 100 years.

There are two different ways to polish concrete. The first way is to pour a whole new floor and burnish with trowel machines. This process takes very skilled concrete finishers and a great eye for detail. These floors must be flat, as well as, aesthetically pleasing to the eye. When this step is finished we saw cut the floor, spray the floor with cure, wipe with micro fiber mops, and buff the floor before the buildings opening.

The second way is to be working with an existing concrete floor. This is called retro fitting a floor.  With the floor already in place, a cure is sprayed and a micro fiber mop is used to help penetrate the surface of the concrete. Special grinding machines with diamonds embedded into them grind the floor to the desired depth where the natural aggregate will be featured.
